How exercise can lower your blood pressure?

Regular physical activity makes your heart stronger. A stronger heart can pump more blood with less effort. If your heart can work less to pump, the force on your arteries decreases, lowering your blood pressure.

Becoming more active can lower your systolic blood pressure — the top number in a blood pressure reading . That's as good as some blood pressure medications. For some people, getting some exercise is enough to reduce the need for blood pressure medication.

If your blood pressure is at a desirable level — less than 120/80 mm Hg — exercise can help prevent it from rising as you age. Regular exercise also helps you maintain a healthy weight — another important way to control blood pressure.

But to keep your blood pressure low, you need to keep exercising on a regular basis.
It takes about one to three months for regular exercise to have an impact on your blood pressure...

Now the question is How much exercise do you need ?
The Department of Health and Human Services recommends getting at least 150 minutes of moderate aerobic activity or 75 minutes of vigorous aerobic activity a week, or a combination of moderate and vigorous activity. Aim for at least 30 minutes of aerobic activity most days of the week.
If you have high blood pressure and you'd like to include weight training in your fitness program, remember:

Learn and use proper form of exercise

Don't hold your breath. Holding your breath during exertion can cause dangerous spikes in blood pressure.

Lift lighter weights more times. Heavier weights require more strain, which can cause a greater increase in blood pressure.

Listen to your body. Stop your activity right away if you become severely out of breath or dizzy, or if you experience chest pain or pressure.

People taking insulin or insulin oral diabetes pills that cause pancreas to make more insulin, they are at risk for hypoglycemia during physical activity or exercise.
if insulin dose or carbohydrate intake is not adjusted with exercise. Checking your blood sugar before doing any physical activity is important to prevent hypoglycemia (low blood sugar).

If you experience hypoglycemia during or after exercise, treat it immediately:

Follow a simple 15-15 rule:
1. Check your blood glucose before exercise.

2. If your reading is 100 mg/dL or lower, have 15-20 grams of carbohydrate to raise your blood glucose. For that you can take:

4 glucose tablets or

1/2 cup of juice or regular soda (not diet), or

1 tablespoon of sugar or honey

3. Check your blood glucose again after 15 minutes. If it is still below 100 mg/dL, have another serving of 15 grams of carbohydrate.

4. Repeat these steps every 15 minutes until your blood glucose is at least 100 mg/dL.

If you want to continue your workout, you will usually need to take a break to treat your low blood glucose. Check to make sure your blood glucose has come back up above 100 mg/dl before starting to exercise again.

Keep in mind that low blood glucose can occur during or long after physical activity. It is more likely to occur if you:

*Take insulin or an insulin drugs
*Skip meals
*Exercise for a long time
*Exercise strenuously

If hypoglycemia interferes with your exercise routine, contact us for the best treatment plan for you. We will help you to manage your suger level with or without drugs and medicine.
