DOUBLE , QUADRUPLE MARKERS AND NIPT : ARE THEY REALLY IMPORTANT OR JUST ANOTHER EXPENSIVE UNNECESSARY TEST?
Double or quadruple markers and nipt are routine part of the antenatal checkup. They are screening tests which help to identify certain genetic anomalies in your fetus : trisomy 21 (commonly known as DOWN'S SYNDROME) , trisomy 18 and trisomy 13 and neural tube defects. If the screening is positive then invasive diagnostic testing like amniocentesis and cvs can be done to confirm the possibility of these anomalies.
