WHY 36 WEEKS IS ALREADY 9 MONTHS PREGNANT: PREGNANCY MONTHS ARE NOT CALCULATED THE WAY YOU THINK!

Many mamas get confused and it’s very understandable.

We are used to hearing that 4 weeks makes 1 month, so naturally you might think pregnancy should follow that same pattern.

But pregnancy does not work like that.

Pregnancy is counted from the first day of your last period and it lasts about 40 weeks, not exactly 9 calendar months.

Now here is where the confusion comes in:

If you divide 40 weeks by 4, it gives you 10 months… but we all say pregnancy is 9 months.

Why?

Because real months are not exactly 4 weeks. Some months have 30 days, some 31, and February is even shorter.

So pregnancy months are not equal like that.

This is why:
36 weeks is already considered 9 months pregnant, even though 36 ÷ 4 = 9.

It doesn’t mean something is wrong, it’s just how pregnancy is calculated.

That’s also why doctors focus more on weeks, not months, because weeks give a more accurate picture of your baby’s growth and development.

So mama, don’t stress yourself too much trying to match weeks perfectly into months.

What matters most is how your baby is growing, not just the number of months.

Check the chart I posted to help you understand it better.

Not sure when to see a fertility specialist?
Here’s a simple guide 👇

🕒 When should you seek help?

👉 If you’re under 35:
Trying for 1 year without success → get evaluated

👉 If you’re 35 or above:
Don’t wait more than 6 months

⚠️ You may need to see a specialist earlier if you have:
* Irregular or absent periods
* PCOS or thyroid issues
* Known low s***m count / male factor
* History of miscarriage
* Planning pregnancy later and want clarity

💡 Why early consultation matters:
It’s not about rushing into treatment—
it’s about understanding your fertility early

👉 Sometimes, small guidance is enough
👉 Sometimes, it helps avoid delays later

🤍 Final thought:
You don’t have to wait until something is “wrong”
to start asking the right questions.
👉 DM to discuss your situation confidentially

👉 Follow for more real, honest fertility awareness

My NIPT test is normal ...Does it mean my baby is completely normal?

No single test is "GOLD STANDARD" for assessing fetal normality.

There is list of tests which will provide gestation wise information regarding fetal condition or which will rule out particular structural defects/ chromosomal defects in the fetus.

First Trimester (Weeks 6–13)
• Dating/Viability Scan (6–10 weeks): Confirms intrauterine pregnancy, detects fetal heartbeat, and provides the most accurate estimation of the due date.
• Cell-Free DNA (cfDNA/NIPT) (From 10 weeks): A highly sensitive blood test that analyzes fetal DNA in the mother's blood to screen for Trisomy 21, 18, and 13.
• Nuchal Translucency (NT) Scan (11–13+6 weeks): Measures the fluid at the back of the baby’s neck; increased thickness is a marker for aneuploidy, genetic abnormalities and heart defects.
• Double Marker Test (11–13+6 weeks): A blood test measuring PAPP-A and hCG levels, often combined with the NT scan for improved accuracy.
• Chorionic Villus Sampling (CVS) (11–13 weeks): An invasive diagnostic test (not screening) offered if initial screenings show high risk.

Second Trimester (Weeks 14–26)
• Quadruple Marker Screen (16–20 weeks): A blood test for patients who missed first-trimester screening, assessing risks for aneuploidy and neural tube defects.
• Amniocentesis (>16 weeks): A diagnostic procedure to confirm genetic conditions by sampling amniotic fluid.
• Fetal Anomaly Scan / genetic sonogram (18–22 weeks): A comprehensive "level II" ultrasound to examine detailed anatomy (brain, heart, spine, limbs) and identify structural abnormalities.
• Fetal Echocardiogram (22–24 weeks): A specialized scan focusing on the baby's heart, typically performed if a defect is suspected.
• Fetal Neurosonography (22-24 weeks): Whenever indicated for detailed examination of fetal brain in different planes.

Third Trimester (Weeks 27–Birth)
• Fetal Growth Scan (28–32 weeks): Monitors the baby's size, weight, and amniotic fluid levels.
• Doppler Ultrasound (As needed): Checks blood flow in the umbilical cord, fetal cerebral artery and placenta to assess fetal well-being.

Her labour was moving until it suddenly stopped.

She had been pushing for hours, but the baby was not coming down.
Then her womb started contracting in a way that was no longer helping her. It was hurting her.

She was experiencing obstructed labour, and what followed is one of the most dangerous signs:

What is Bandl’s Ring?

Bandl’s Ring (pathological retraction ring) is an abnormal tightening between the upper and lower parts of the uterus during obstructed labour.
It is not normal. It is the body’s warning that something is wrong.

Why is it dangerous?

When the uterus keeps trying to push a baby that cannot descend, a tight constriction band forms.
Without quick intervention, it can lead to:

• Uterine rupture
• Fetal distress or death
• Severe bleeding
• Maternal exhaustion
• Emergency C-section, often the only way to save both lives

What causes it?

• Baby too big, wrong position, or narrow pelvis
• Labour lasting too long with no progress
• Wrong use of oxytocin or labour stimulants
• Delay in getting skilled help

How to recognize it:

• A visible ridge on the belly
• Uterus rising unusually high
• Pain increasing but no progress
• Baby not descending
• Signs of fetal distress

This is a medical emergency. A timely C-section is usually needed.

What every mother should know:

Bandl’s Ring is rare, but when it happens, every minute matters.
Skilled birth attendance, proper monitoring, and early referral save lives.

Never allow anyone to tell you to push harder for hours without progress.
Safe labour is your right.
