Uttarakhand Cloudburst – Nature’s Fury or Human Folly?

The visuals from Dharali are heart-wrenching — cloudbursts, flash floods, landslides, people running for life, mountains crumbling. But is this just nature’s anger, or a consequence of our own actions?

Humans have exploited everything in the name of development — forests, rivers, mountains, wildlife. We are perhaps the most dangerous species, the only ones who strive to dominate everything.

Himalayan regions like Uttarakhand and Himachal are now paying the price. Uncontrolled deforestation, blind road construction, dams, and hotels on riverbanks — all in the name of tourism, especially the spiritual tourism.

Monsoons are natural,Rivers overflowing is also natural but disasters become massive when nature’s balance is disturbed.
The government promotes tourism, but who protects the lives of locals? And what about the silent sufferers — the animals, the forests ?

We’ve started normalising these calamities - it’s a reflection of our greed. Until we change, nature will keep fighting back.
