'Heal in India' is the mantra which the world will adopt soon. - Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi

Interestingly, our Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji didn't use the phrase 'Treat in India' or 'Cure in India' instead he chose 'Heal in India'.

Healing is a process which requires strengthening of body, mind and spirit. It is a process of self awareness which involves acceptance to change.
Treating includes medicines, therapies, surgery and alike.

Healing is a community effort whereas treating is a methodology of medical care givers.

India is a land of healers as its traditional regional foods, celebrations and festivals ensure wellbeing of physical, mental and spiritual health, giving a holistic approach towards 'swasthya'.

We must ensure we preserve the character of this land and be global healers.

This is the perfect season for winter-special.
Yes, I am talking about Sarso ka saag and Makke ki roti. It's a combination to die for. And if it's accompanied with the desi gud and the safed makkhan, it's heavenly.

Whenever you are relishing the flavours of this lip-smacking wonder, keep a few things on mind.

1. Ideal time of consumption: Preferred afternoons, avoid night intake.

2. Ideal companions : Home-made white butter and gud (aged jaggery).

3. Post meal ritual : Walk a few steps as it helps in propelling the food to the next level. Take lukewarm warm as it clears the greasing and helps in its digestion.

Include these 3 simple tips and enjoy the seasonal sarso ka saag with makke ki roti.

One of the many examples from old times when modern health concepts were in contrast to what Ayurveda propagated. But today, they are in sync with Ayurveda.

Fasting was outright rejected by modern health practitioners as they equated fasting to starving. The simple mindset - "Khuch to zaroor khao... Thoda to khao" has led to multiple health conditions. Today, they resort to the concept of fasting as they found out that fasting helps in digesting the toxins accumulated in our body.

Ayurveda has always used Fasting as a major and primary treatment protocol. One simple example is that - Ayurveda suggests to discontinue intake of food if suffering with fever whereas even today modern encourages people to eat if they have fever.
Also, fasting is a part of our traditional and cultural practice and is popular as vrat and upvasa which keeps us fit and our gut healthy.

Modern science has repackaged and sold this ancient old concept as intermittent fasting, the benefits are same as mentioned in our classical Ayurvedic texts.

It's like - Old Knowledge New Packaging.

They are selling us our own concepts by first outright rejecting them and later relabeling or repackaging them into modern terminology.

Ayurveda has always proposed concepts which remain constant with ever-changing times. This has earned Ayurveda a boon of existence till date despite being the oldest health science. It is applicable even in times today where the health science has advanced so much. You can find answers to your unsolved confusions in this deep ocean of Ayurveda.

That's the power of our ancient health science.
Acknowledge it. Embrace it.

One of the many examples from old times when modern health concepts were in contrast to what Ayurveda propagated. But today, they are in sync with Ayurveda.

Breastfeeding was challenged by modern health experts and had become a highly discouraged practice in the past few decades. But later, with their advanced research they found out that breastfeeding is extremely essential as the breast milk is rich with immunoglobulins which promote immunity in the newborn.
Ayurveda has supported the concept of breastfeeding as it was aware of its benefits for the baby and the mother.
Sadly, due to surrendering to the incomplete health research and rejecting our traditional practice, many newborns were deprived of the immunoglobulins bestowed upon them through their mother's milk.

We were told by modern health experts that ghee is a monster in our kitchens which results into high cholesterol levels and weight gain. Today, the same researchers flip their past observations and declare ghee an elixir for heart, beneficial to the gut and skeletal system, keeps the weight in check and many more.
Interestingly, all the benefits which the modern health experts are highlighting about ghee today, have already been mentioned in the centuries-old text of Ayurveda.

There is an ongoing trend on Intermittent Fasting. Many patients have asked if Ayurveda too proposes something like this?

So to understand what Ayurveda suggests, let's first understand the modern term 'Intermittent Fasting'.
It is the cycle between voluntary fasting and non-fasting over a given period.
There are various patterns to it such as
1. Alternate day fasting
2. Periodic fasting
3. Daily time-restricted eating

All the patterns mentioned by today's intermittent fasting have been covered in Ayurveda for preventive and curative purposes.
1. Alternate fasting and periodic fasting is mentioned as Langhana which can be incorporated based on the condition of the disease
2. Daily time-restricted eating is the most common format that Ayurveda recommends on a regular basis which is consuming meals at morning and evening hours. It encourages two meals a day. As per my opinion, the most ideal is the daily time-restricted eating as it is a natural and a regular method to keep your body detoxed. Here, a basic rule of 16-8 is followed where you spend 16 hours in voluntary fasting and 8 hours include two meals at certain time gap.

That's the working principle of Ayurveda for maintaining health.

Long before the modern world discovered the concept of Intermittent Fasting, Ayurvedic texts ensured that this concept must be a part of your routine.
