Depression is a common and serious medical illness that negatively affects how you feel, the way you think and how you act. Depression causes feelings of sadness and/or a loss of interest in activities you once enjoyed.
Anxiety is a normal emotion. It’s your brain’s way of reacting to stress and alerting you of potential danger ahead. Everyone feels anxious now and then .Occasional anxiety is actually beneficial for people. But anxiety disorders are different. They’re a group of mental illnesses that cause constant and overwhelming anxiety and fear.
Although these two are distinct mental illnesses, anxiety and depression often occur together. These two illnesses have a cyclic relationship. 90% of patients with anxiety disorders develop depression.
Sadness is something we all experience from time to time. For some, this feeling is temporary and comes and goes away on its own. But for others, this persistent feeling of emptiness, unhappiness, and hopelessness becomes a regular part of their day. This leads to depression. Depression affects your mood, thoughts, feelings , behavior and physical health. For some people, depression feels like there is no way out of it. It has a significant impact on sleep and it can be physically painful.
Anxiety isn’t just a mental health disorder. Anxiety lives in the mind and the spirit as well. People suffering from anxiety can have muscle pain, physical stress and they are unable to relax most of the time. Ruminating thoughts about the future, distressing thoughts about the past, and extreme worrying or concern are common with anxiety. Anxiety is real and a person just cannot simply relax or snap out of it on command.
Remember, that even if you feel like there is no light at the end of the tunnel , you can get better.
