A mother of two, who had undergone tubal ligation 15 years ago, presented with severe abdominal pain.
On ultrasound (USG), a Copper-T was detected inside the uterus, partially invading the myometrium. After taking a detailed history, it was revealed that the patient had requested removal of the Copper-T before her ligation procedure. However, it was not removed at that time, and the patient was unaware that it was still in place.
We decided to proceed with hysteroscopic removal. Today, the procedure was successfully performed. Intraoperatively, the Copper-T was found within the uterine cavity but partially embedded in the myometrium.
Fortunately, the surgery was uneventful, and the Copper-T was safely removed using a hysteroscope.
The patient is stable, doing well, and ready for discharge today.
👉 This case highlights the importance of ensuring that any intrauterine contraceptive device is removed prior to performing permanent sterilization procedures.
