Case of Gingival Depigmentation

Melanin pigmentation of the gingiva is a common occurrence and is completely benign. Some patients like to have their gums lightened for esthetic reasons.

The procedure was done by a surgical scalpel under an hour with local anesthesia. Post operative restrictions are minimal, mostly avoiding very hot or spicy foods and liquids for a few days. The gums heal in a week or so.
