I was watching a national news channel where an advertisement showing completely absurd and false information tries to sell the painless, curable treatment of cancer. Obviously, everyone who or whose family member has cancer would take such ads with real opportunity. By indulging in such utter bu****it, they would lose their therapeutic window of cure and realize only after having wasted a golden time trying to find a cure with us. This prompted me to write.
We work closely with AYUSH experts in our center (AIIMS Jodhpur). We are doing various research to find out the role of traditional medicines beyond support. The supporting role of conventional drugs is well established, but if one claims it can cure cancer, it is not as good as one says it can make a person eternal.
We celebrate World Cancer Day today with a 'close the care gap' theme. The care gap can only be closed with proper knowledge and awareness. Legislation should come hard on such absurd information every 15 minutes to stop this. Such people are criminals to society and more dangerous than terrorists or criminals of that scale.
I closely follow one such person who claimed to cure heart disease. When his allies developed Heart attack (MI), he rushed to us. He got treated here and is taking aspirin and clopidogrel, as my peer advised him. Hypocritically, he started to indulge in such ads again. Commercial gains might be significant, but fallacious information on health that too on chronic diseases like cancer, diabetes, or cardiac disease would hurt society really, really bad.

मैं एक राष्ट्रीय समाचार चैनल देख रहा था जहां एक विज्ञापन पूरी तरह से बेतुका और झूठी जानकारी दिखाते हुए कैंसर के दर्द रहित, इलाज योग्य उपचार को बेचने की कोशिश करता है। जाहिर है, हर कोई जिसे या जिसके परिवार के किसी सदस्य को कैंसर है, ऐसे विज्ञापनों को वास्तविक अवसर के साथ लेगा। इस तरह की बकवास में लिप्त होकर, वे इलाज की अपनी चिकित्सीय खिड़की खो देंगे और हमारे साथ इलाज खोजने की कोशिश में अपना सुनहरा समय बर्बाद करने के बाद ही उन्हें इसका एहसास होगा। इसने मुझे लिखने के लिए प्रेरित किया.
हम अपने केंद्र (एम्स जोधपुर) में आयुष विशेषज्ञों के साथ मिलकर काम करते हैं। हम समर्थन से परे पारंपरिक दवाओं की भूमिका का पता लगाने के लिए विभिन्न शोध कर रहे हैं। पारंपरिक दवाओं की सहायक भूमिका अच्छी तरह से स्थापित है, लेकिन अगर कोई दावा करता है कि यह कैंसर का इलाज कर सकती है, तो यह उतना अच्छा नहीं है जितना कोई कहता है कि यह किसी व्यक्ति को शाश्वत बना सकता है।
हम आज विश्व कैंसर दिवस को 'देखभाल के अंतर को बंद करें' थीम के साथ मनाते हैं। देखभाल के अंतर को केवल उचित ज्ञान और जागरूकता से ही भरा जा सकता है। इसे रोकने के लिए हर 15 मिनट में ऐसी बेतुकी जानकारी पर सख्त कानून बनाया जाना चाहिए। ऐसे लोग समाज के लिए अपराधी हैं और आतंकवादियों या उस स्तर के अपराधियों से भी अधिक खतरनाक हैं।
मैं ऐसे ही एक शख्स को करीब से फॉलो करता हूं, जिसने दिल की बीमारी ठीक करने का दावा किया था। जब उनके सहयोगियों को हार्ट अटैक (एमआई) हुआ, तो वे दौड़कर हमारे पास आए। उन्होंने यहां इलाज कराया और एस्पिरिन और क्लोपिडोग्रेल ले रहे हैं, जैसा कि मेरे सहकर्मी ने उन्हें सलाह दी थी। वह पाखंडी होकर ऐसे विज्ञापनों में शामिल होने लगा। व्यावसायिक लाभ महत्वपूर्ण हो सकते हैं, लेकिन स्वास्थ्य पर भ्रामक जानकारी, वह भी कैंसर, मधुमेह या हृदय रोग जैसी पुरानी बीमारियों पर, समाज को वास्तव में बहुत बुरा नुकसान पहुंचाएगी।
