Deep vein thrombosis (DVT)

Occurs when a blood clot (thrombus) forms in one or more of the deep veins in the body, usually in the legs. Deep vein thrombosis can cause leg pain or swelling.

Symptoms:

1. Swelling of your leg or arm
2. Pain or tenderness in your leg or arm
3. The area of your leg or arm that’s swollen or hurts may be warmer than usual.
4. Skin that’s red or discolored.
5. The veins near your skin’s surface may be larger than normal.

Benefits of Physiotherapy in DVT:

1.Encouraging patient mobility and physical activity at the individual and institutional levels.
2.Recommending and using mechanical compression for individuals at moderate or high risk for DVT.
3.Providing education on DVT prevention, including leg exercises, walking routines and hydration.
4.Providing education on the risk factors, signs and symptoms, and consequences of DVT.
