World Immunization Week 2025 (24-30 April)

Immunisation for All is Humanly Possible

Vaccines are one of humanity’s greatest achievements.

As per WHO, Over the last 50 years, essential vaccines have saved at least 154 million lives. That’s 6 lives a minute, every day, for five decades.

In these 50 years, vaccination accounts for 40% of the improvement in infant survival, and more children now live to see their first birthday and beyond than at any other time in human history.

Do not avoid vaccination...it saves lives.

AUTISM AWARENESS DAY (2nd February)

What is Autism and how to identify it ?

Autism is a neurodevelopmental problem which is mostly diagnosed during age of 2-3 years in a child. If a child does not speak clear meaningful words (linguistic delay) by the age of 18 months, does not make sustained eye contact and plays alone mostly with a fixed toy the child may be suffering from autism. If you notice any such symptoms in your or anyone else's child, get the child examined by a pediatrician. Early intervention is the key to better results in such children.

How to Improve Immunity of My Child? Which Immunity Booster is the best ?

This is one of the most common question most child specialists come across in their clinics. Let's understand some basics about immunity. General Immunity of a child depends upon various factors including factors which we can control and then factors which to extent are not like genetics and age. So below is the list of common factors which we can control include:

1. Diet and Nutrition
2. Physical Activity
3. Sleep
4. Environmental Factors such as exposure to sunlight and fresh
air
5. Exposure to Various Bacteria and Viruses
6. Vaccination

If any of the above is out of balance the immunity of a child may be affected. If any of the nutrients are missing from the diet it can affect the immunity so rather than focusing on one or two superfoods try to give different kind of foods including fresh fruits and vegetables, grains, dairy products, legumes and so on. There is no single food which contains all the nutrients.

1-2 hours of daily physical activity especially free and unstructured play improves immunity as well mental health of the child, so encourage your kid to play in the park or street with other kids rather then sitting idle in front of television or with mobile/tablet/laptop.

Adequate sleep of 9-10 hours at night is crucial in maintaining good immunity, so avoid late nights.

Ensure that your child gets at least 30 minutes of exposure to sunlight which improves vitamin D levels as well as general immunity.

Hygiene is good but too much hygiene decreases exposure of child to various bacteria and viruses which in turn leads to poor immunity. Too much use of soaps and sanitisers has proven harmful. So, try to maintain a good hygiene but do not overdo it.

Vaccines improve immunity against common serious infections so get your kiddo vaccinated timely to maintain good immunity against those infections.

A Healthy Child is a Happy Child 😊
