Vitamin D deficiency can affect more than just your bones, it can affect your skin as well.

HOW VITAMIN D IS PRODUCED IN YOUR SKIN:

Sunlight exposure is the primary source of vitamin D. When UVB rays of the sun (wavelengths of 290 to 315 nanometers) hit your skin, it stimulates the production of vitamin D3 from 7-dehydrocholesterol (7-DHC) present in the upper layers of the skin.

Thus, Vitamin D is actually more like a hormone than a vitamin.

SKIN BENEFITS OF VITAMIN D:

Healthy vitamin D levels help prevent skin from premature aging, but too much sun leads to accelerated skin aging.

Vitamin D offers protective effect against sun damage. Documented effects in skin cells include decreased DNA damage, increased cell life, decreased skin inflammation and redness.

Some studies have found that vitamin D can help treat skin conditions like dry skin, psoriasis and eczema.

When your levels of vitamin D are low it can mean that you’re more prone to inflammation.

Vitamin D is also responsible for healthy wound healing and tissue repair as well as healthy barrier function.

Here’s a mini guide on layering serums to get maximum absorption:

From thinnest to thickest - the lighter or more runny serum will go on your skin first followed by the thicker or heavier serum

If you’re not sure about the order of consistency of your serums, you can put a few drops of each on the back of your hand and see which one runs the fastest.

If you use an acid based serum or toner, it should go on before other serums so that the skin is prepped.

Do not use more than 2 serums - it would not be as effective.

If you are using multiple serums, they should target different problem areas.

Check the ingredient list of formulations to make sure you aren’t using a single active too many times. Too much hyaluronic acid can cause a break out!

✖️AHA/BHA with retinol
✖️Vitamin C and Retinol

✔️ Hyaluronic Acid + Vitamin C
✔️ Niacinamide + Retinol
