Dr Rohan Bharadwaj, MBBS (General Physician) has the following pertinent information to share with the people of Assam with his second video on Vaccination. This is something which might be useful during these unprecedented times. He tries to answer few questions related to vaccination.

Q:can vaccination be provided to children?
A:Children have either asymptomatic or mild infection. The general practice is to first evaluate any new vaccine in older population and then age reduction is done to assess the safety and effectiveness in paediatric population. The currently available vaccines have not been evaluated in children so far.

Q:Do I have a choice of vaccine I will receive?
The vaccine will be supplied to various parts of India as per availability and distribution plan. His advise is to get vaccinated with whichever vaccine that is available at your nearest vaccination centre.

Discussion on COVAXIN & COVISHIELD:
Two vaccines that have been granted emergency use authorization by the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) in India are COVISHIELD®️ (AstraZeneca's vaccine manufactured by Serum Institute of India)[Composition of Covishield includes inactivated adenovirus with segments of Coronavirus],The time interval between two doses of the Covishield vaccine has been extended from four-six weeks to four-eight week
and
COVAXIN®️ (manufactured by Bharat Biotech Limited). Composition of Covaxin includes inactivated Coronavirus,
The second dose of Covaxin can be taken four to six weeks after the first.
CONCLUSION:
Both would work fine in preventing the infection as well as prevent a person from going into severe state of the disease

Q:Is it necessary for a COVID-19 recovered person to take the vaccine? And if I had COVID-19 infection and was treated, why should I receive the vaccine?
A:Yes, it is advisable to receive complete schedule of COVID-19 vaccine irrespective of past history of infection with COVID-19. This will help in developing a strong immune response against the disease. Wait for 4-8 weeks after recovery from COVID symptoms before getting the vaccine.

Q: WHEN NOT TO TAKE VACCINE?
A: Pregnant & Lactating women have not been part of any COVID-19 vaccine clinical trial so far. Therefore, women who are pregnant or not sure of their pregnancy; and lactating women should not receive COVID-19 vaccine at this time
Acutely unwell and hospitalized (with or without intensive care) patients due to any illness.

Q: ARE MENSTRUATING WOMEN NOT ALLOWED TO TAKE VACCINE WHEN THEY ARE ON THEIR PERIOD ?
A: no relation between mentruation and vaccine . they can definately take ..

His message in brief :

Q:What to do once you test positive for Covid-19 ?

1) First and foremost, do not panic.
2) Isolate yourself (quarantine).
3) Regularly monitor you heart rate, Oxygen saturation, and body temperature with the help of thermometer and pulse oximeter.
4) You are advised to take Paracetamol 650 mg thrice daily.
5) You can also take Vitamin C 500 mg tablets twice daily.
6) Always wear a mask and sanitize your hands frequently

Q: When is hospitalisation necessary?
A: If you have a continuous Fever with body temperature beyond 100 degrees F, even after taking Paracetamol, along with a dip in Oxygen saturation, that goes below 94%.
