🌸 The Menstrual Cycle – Islamic & Medical Understanding
The menstrual cycle is a natural, monthly hormonal process in females that prepares the body for pregnancy.
🩺 Medically, it lasts around 28 days on average, with a normal range of 21 to 35 days in adults.
🌙 1. Haidh (Menstruation / Monthly Period)
Definition:
Natural bleeding from the uterus of a healthy, adult woman (after puberty), not caused by illness, childbirth, or injury.
Key Islamic Rulings:
🕒 Minimum Duration: 3 days (72 hours)
⏳ Maximum Duration: 10 days (240 hours)
👧 Minimum Age: 9 lunar years
👶 2. Nifas (Postnatal Bleeding)
Definition:
Bleeding following childbirth — whether the baby is born alive, stillborn, or through miscarriage (if limbs were formed).
Key Islamic Rulings:
⏳ Maximum Duration: 40 days
💧 3. Istihada (Irregular / Dysfunctional Bleeding)
Definition:
Any bleeding outside the days of Haidh(periods) or Nifas (Postnatal bleeding) — including:
*Excessively prolonged periods
*Bleeding between menstrual cycle
*Spotting due to hormonal or medical conditions.
