:
The present era is witnessing tremendous growth of scientific literature. It’s estimated that 6-7% of new literature is added every year, which means that the available knowledge will double in the next ten years and grow by 10 fold in the fifty years. The question arises that how much Pakistan is contributing to the medical literature. To address this issue and give a platform to the new investigators of Pakistan and other countries, JPMS was formed. “Journal of Pakistan Medical Students” (JPMS) is the first online, peer-reviewed medical journal initiated by Pakistani medical students. It aims to provide a forum not only to medical students but also to doctors for publication of their articles, discussion on important medical topics, assistance and guidance to students intending a foreign electives experience, bridging the gaps and promoting communication between medical students. The journal is not confined to the medical students and to medical students only. Anyone can contribute. JPMS welcomes any topic related to medical sciences, dental medicine and nursing as well. Long term goals include provision of high quality research papers and creating a students’ journal indexed by reputed indexation services.
***JPMS Medical Blogs – For Medical Professionals and General Public***
JPMS Medical Blogs is an initiative to provide a platform for students, doctors, professionals, general public and the policy makers where they can discuss updates pertaining to medical literature and healthcare related issues. The sub-continent has many medical blogs; however, the authenticity of the information posted there is always a question. Each article published in JPMS Medical Blogs has to be reviewed by two practicing doctors, one of which is an editor from JPMS to ensure that the information is medically correct. Since JPMS is a supporting organization of Healthcare Information For All by 2015 (HIFA 2015), an organization based in UK, it affirms the objectives of free healthcare information for everyone. Developing countries have limited access to research journals. If correct and accurate information is given to doctors from developing countries, their need for scientific knowledge can be addressed through this blog. Moreover, it presents research in a simple language so that common people and doctors, who do not have much knowledge and understanding of the statistical methods, can benefit from scientific literature.
