As a part of golden Jubilee year of Indian Independence “75th Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav'', a workshop on “COVID-19 and To***co” was conducted on 19th January, 2022 for Village heads (Pradhan) across the state of Himachal Pradesh by the Department of Community Medicine, Dr.RPGMC, Tanda in collaboration with the Centre for Advancing To***co Control in Himachal Pradesh which was stated by Dr. Bhanu Awasthi, Principal Dr.RP Govt. Medical College Tanda . The workshop started with a special address by Dr. Raina wherein he highlighted the role of CATCH in building awareness towards implementation of to***co control policies in the state and role of village heads in making to***co free Himachal Pradesh. Dr Sakshi Supehia (Project Coordinator, CATCH) gave information regarding MPOWER strategies and ‘To***co Free Village’. The programme was moderated by Dr Aishwarya (District Coordinator, CATCH). The session ended with a closing remark from Dr Sunil. He also stated that the state has been doing well in reducing to***co use but Himachal Pradesh has the potential to not just present a model to the country but to the entire world. More than 55 village heads from all 12 districts of the state participated in the workshop.

As a part of golden Jubilee year of Indian Independence “75th Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav'', the workshop on “COVID-19 and To***co” was conducted on 12th January, 2022 for heads/principals of the educational institutions from all 12 districts of Himachal Pradesh. The Department of Community Medicine, Dr.RPGMC, Tanda in collaboration with the Centre for Advancing To***co Control in Himachal Pradesh (CATCH Dr.RPGMC Tanda) have been conducting a series of state level workshop in Himachal Pradesh.
The workshop started with a special address by Dr. Raina wherein he highlighted the role of CATCH in building awareness towards implementation of to***co control policies in the state and role of institution’s heads/principals in making to***co free educational institutes in the state of Himachal Pradesh. He highlights the role of the teaching community in reducing to***co usage. Mr Narender Singh Jamwal (Principal, GSSS ,Mahunag. Mandi) shared his experience on establishing his school as the first to***co free educational institute in Himachal Pradesh. Dr. Harshvardhan (Assistant Professor, Department of Community Medicine) spoke on to***co prevention strategies and Dr Sakshi Supehia (Project Coordinator, CATCH) gave information regarding TOFEI guidelines. The programme was moderated by Dr Aishwarya (District Coordinator, CATCH). The session ended with a closing remark from Dr Sunil. He also stated that the state has been doing well in reducing to***co use among students, but Himachal Pradesh has the potential to not just present a model to the country but to the entire world. More than 80 Heads/Principals from all 12 districts of the state participated in the workshop.

In an attempt to create an awareness among implementers of the provisions of to***co control laws in the state of Himachal Pradesh, the Department of Community Medicine, Dr.RPGMC, Tanda in collaboration with the CATCH and The Union conducted a series of state level workshop for Trainings of Trainers for Police Department under COTPA act in Himachal Pradesh. On the World No To***co Day -2021, a webinar on “COVID-19 and To***co Control” was conducted on Monday, 31st May 2021 for all delegates working in to***co, faculties of Community Medicine/ Public Health and MBBS/BDS students from all medical and dental colleges across Himachal Pradesh.
The Webinar was organized by CATCH (Centre for Advancing To***co Control in Himachal Pradesh), Department of Community Medicine, DRPGMC at Tanda (HP) in collaboration with The International Union against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease (The Union), South East Asia Office, New Delhi.

Prof. Bhanu Awasthi, Principal of DRPGMC at Tanda inaugurated the session by welcoming all delegates. Dr Sakshi Supehia, Project Coordinator (CATCH), DRPGMC shared the objectives of Webinar and introduced the WNTD theme “Commit to Quit”.

Dr Sunil Raina, Prof and Head of Dept. of Community Medicine, DRPGMC and Director of CATCH addressed the webinar by sharing his insights on the establishment of CATCH in HP and subsequently elaborated on the relationship between COVID-19 &To***co use.

Dr Shivam Kapoor, Technical Advisor from The Union detailed the participants with the role of medical and dental colleges, future aspects, opportunities and various challenges in advancing To***co Cessation.
Dr Gopal Chauhan, State Nodal Officer, STCC Himachal Pradesh elaborated on the burden of to***co, ongoing efforts in to***co control in HP and he insisted the young doctors to address the challenges in to***co control efforts.
Dr Harshvardhan Singh, Assistant Prof., Dept. of Community Medicine and Consultant In-charge of CATCH, DRPGMC addressed the medical college students by calling them to “Join the Movement” and “Be an Ambassador” on this new initiative for To***co Control in HP. Dr Aishwarya, District Coordinator (CATCH) hosted the whole session and delivered the vote of thanks.
More than 100 participants joined over-zoom meeting while 370 were watching the session live on YouTube.
