Piles, also known as haemorrhoids, are swollen and inflamed veins in the re**um and a**s. There are two main types of piles:
Internal piles: These are located inside the re**um and are usually not visible. However, they can cause bleeding during bowel movements.
External piles: These are located outside the a**s and can be seen and felt. They can cause itching, pain, and bleeding.
To examine piles, a doctor may perform a physical examination of the a**s and re**um. They may use a gloved finger to feel for any lumps or abnormalities. In some cases, a proctoscope or anoscope may be used to examine the inside of the re**um and a**s.
Other tests that may be done include a sigmoidoscopy or colonoscopy, which involve using a flexible tube with a camera to examine the colon and re**um. A doctor may also order a stool test to check for any signs of bleeding or infection.
It's important to consult a doctor if you have symptoms of piles, as they can be a sign of other more serious conditions. Treatment may involve lifestyle changes, such as increasing fiber and water intake, or medical procedures, such as banding, sclerotherapy, or surgery.

The coronavirus, also known as COVID-19, is caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which has undergone multiple mutations since it first emerged. These mutations can lead to new variant strains of the virus that may have different characteristics, such as increased transmissibility or resistance to existing vaccines.

There have been several variant strains of SARS-CoV-2 that have been identified and are being monitored by health authorities around the world. Some examples include:

B.1.1.7: This variant, first identified in the United Kingdom in late 2020, has become the dominant strain in many countries and is believed to be more transmissible than previous strains.

P.1: This variant, first identified in Brazil in early 2021, has also been found to be more transmissible and may have a higher potential to evade immunity from previous infections or vaccines.

B.1.617: This variant, first identified in India in late 2021, has also been found to be more transmissible and has caused a surge in cases in India and other countries.

It's important to note that new variant strains of the virus are continually being identified and characterized, and it is important for public health authorities to monitor and track these developments in order to understand their potential impact on the course of the pandemic.

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and persistence are associated with an elevated risk of treatment failure and relapsing infections. They are thus important drivers of increased morbidity and mortality rates resulting in growing healthcare costs. Antibiotic resistance is readily identifiable with standard microbiological assays, and the threat imposed by antibiotic resistance has been well recognized. Measures aiming to reduce resistance development and spreading of resistant bacteria are being enforced. However, the phenomenon of bacteria surviving antibiotic exposure despite being fully susceptible, so-called antibiotic persistence, is still largely underestimated. In contrast to antibiotic resistance, antibiotic persistence is difficult to measure and therefore often missed, potentially leading to treatment failures.

The history of the first commercial antibiotics is briefly reviewed, together with data from the US and WHO, showing the decrease in death due to infe…
