Anand Mechanic Successfully Undergoes Complex Surgery for Giant Cell Tumor at Shree Krishna Hospital, Karamsad.

A middle-aged mechanic from Anand district, diagnosed with a Giant Cell Tumor (GCT) of the right femur, recently underwent a successful and complex surgical procedure at Shree Krishna Hospital, Karamsad, highlighting the hospital’s strong multidisciplinary approach to complex medical cases.

The patient initially sought medical consultation in Ahmedabad, where a biopsy confirmed the presence of a cancerous giant cell tumor. During this period, while repairing a motorcycle, he sustained a fracture in the affected femur, significantly worsening his condition. At a government hospital in Ahmedabad, he was advised to wait nearly three months for orthopedic surgery. Concerned about the delay, a relative referred him to Shree Krishna Hospital, Karamsad.

At Shree Krishna Hospital, the patient was first evaluated by Dr. Dhruv Sharma, Head of the Orthopaedics Department, who identified both the pathological fracture and the existing tumor. He was then referred to the Oncology Department, where Dr. Raghunandan GC, Surgical Oncologist, reviewed the reports and planned further management.

A multidisciplinary team of orthopedic surgeon, oncologist, anesthetist, and physiotherapist collaboratively planned and executed the surgery. Dr. Raghunandan GC successfully excised the tumor, while Dr. Dhruv Sharma and his orthopedic team reconstructed the femur using a mega prosthesis implant. Dr. Nirali Panchal, the anesthetist, provided comprehensive pre-operative and post-operative anesthesia care throughout the lengthy procedure.

The surgery, which lasted several hours, was completed successfully. With the support of post-operative physiotherapy, the patient is now able to walk comfortably and is recovering well.

The entire treatment was carried out under the Ayushman Bharat scheme, ensuring complete financial coverage for this complex surgical intervention. The coordinated, multi-specialty approach at Shree Krishna Hospital enabled timely and comprehensive care, reflecting the institution’s commitment to advanced and life-saving treatments.

Shree Krishna Hospital continues to stand out as a leading center for managing complex cases that require close collaboration between multiple specialties, ensuring holistic and patient-centered medical care.
