🚩“IMPORTANT 🚩Red Flag Every Parent Must Know! 🚨👶🗣️”

Speaker:
Sowmiya. P

Early baby talk, though cute, becomes a concern if it persists beyond a certain age. It typically starts around 10-12 months with single words like "mom" or "water," and is normal up to 3.5 years. After this, vocabulary expands, and sentence structure improves, though minor sound mistakes are common.

However, if early baby talk continues beyond 4 years, consult a speech therapist, as it may indicate speech delay, articulation issues, or developmental delay - this is a red flag.

If your 4-year-old still uses baby talk, it's time to seek advice from the therapists.

🌈 “Every Child Has Fears 😨 — But You Can Help Them Overcome It 💪✨”

Speaker:
L. Vishnu

Every child experiences fear, and the type of fear changes with age from loud noises and separation in toddlers to imaginary fears in preschoolers, and fear of failure or criticism in older children. Parents can help children overcome fears through assurance, resilience-building, normalizing fear, and teaching them to face it with confidence. Encouraging good body language, social skills, and maintaining consistency in support helps children grow emotionally strong and fearless.

🧬 Is Autism Genetic? | Genetic Tests Every Parent Should Know 🤔✨

Speaker:
Dr.L. Vishnu
Mental health Occupational Therapist

Genetic tests for autism, such as WES, Fragile X Test, and Chromosomal Microarray can help identify underlying genetic abnormalities, but are not a definitive diagnosis. These tests are also used for conditions like Rett syndrome, developmental delay, and seizures. Diagnosis of autism is typically done using standard tools like ADOS, CARS, Indian Autism Rating Scale, and M-Chat along with observations and parental input. We can also diagnose children using DSM-5 standards, with guidance from the WHO. Genetic tests are recommended for children with seizures, developmental delay, and abnormal facial features, and are suggested by pediatricians, developmental pediatricians, and neurologists.

👍👶 Thumb Sucking & Face Changes in Kids: What Every Parent Must Know! 😧🦷

Speaker:
Dr. Manikandan P
Dentist

Speaker:
Dr. L. Vishnu
Mental Health Occupational Therapist

Thumb sucking may look harmless in babies, but when permanent teeth start coming in, it can shrink the upper jaw, push the teeth forward, and affect the child’s facial growth. If not corrected early, orthodontic treatment becomes necessary. Braces (metal or ceramic) stay fixed and give reliable results, while Invisalign and aligners also work well — but only if children wear them properly. Starting treatment after milk teeth fall usually gives the best and quickest results.

⭐ “5 Home Tricks to Boost Your Child’s Focus & Attention! 🎯🧠💡”

Speaker:
R. Pranitha

Children often struggle with attention and focus due to lack of sleep, poor nutrition, or insufficient physical activity.

To improve this, try these strategies:

1. Split tasks : Split a 20-minute task into 15 minutes of work and a 5 minutes break.
2. Make tasks engaging : Divide tasks into three parts: something they know, something they love, and the target task. Tailor it to your child’s strengths.
3. Change the environment: Remove distractions and create a focused workspace.
4. Increase physical activity: Try fun exercises like sticking a ball on cello tape and having them retrieve it.

5. Limit screen time: Use it purposefully. Apps like AvaZ, Jellow and Speech Station software can help improve communication and focus. These apps use interactive elements (e.g., a ball jumps when they say "Jump") to boost curiosity and engagement.

🔥 “15-Min Sensory Diet to Control Hyperactivity at Home!”

Instead of giving activities after the child becomes hyperactive, give them before.

Sensory diet (every 2–3 hours):
• 5 mins heavy work
• 2 mins deep pressure
• Slow swing for 3 mins
• Breath + proprioceptive game

Helps maintain regulated energy levels.

🔵1. Heavy Work Activities
These calm the nervous system and reduce restlessness.
• Pushing/pulling weighted boxes
• Tug-of-war
• Carrying groceries / books
• Wall push-ups
• Therapy ball roll over + deep pressure
• Chair push-ups
• Weighted lap pillow during table tasks

🔵 2. Deep Pressure Input

This decreases arousal levels.
• OT-grade brushing protocol (Wilbarger) – only if trained
• Sandwich pressure between soft cushions
• Massage with firm pressure
• Weighted blanket (short duration)
• Tight hugs (child-led)

🔵 3. Vestibular Activities (Slow, Rhythmic Movement)

Use slow movements; fast spinning increases hyperactivity.
• Slow swinging (front–back)
• Rocking chair
• Therapy ball gentle bouncing
• Slow scooter board lying on tummy
• Linear hammock swing

Avoid: spinning, jumping for long durations (they increase excitement).

🔵4. Breathing Exercise & Proprioceptive Games

Make breathing fun:
• Bubble breathing
• Feather blowing
• Balloon belly breaths
• “Hot cocoa” breathing (smell → blow)
• Pinwheel breathing

These reduce impulsivity and hyper-motor activity.

Proprioceptive games:
Bear walk,Crab walk,Frog jumps,Turtle crawl,Elephant stomping.

Carry:
• books
• water bottles
• small sandbags

Walk, run, or climb during relay.

After this routine, introduce fine motor or sensory activities. Doing this every 2–3 hours can help improve sitting tolerance and reduce hyperactivity.

🍼Bottle-Feeding at Night? Stop This to Prevent Cavities! 😱

Speaker:
Dr. Manikandan P
Dental Surgeon

Speaker:
Dr. L. Vishnu
Mental Health Occupational Therapist

Nursing bottle syndrome is a common issue in children who sleep with a feeding bottle in their mouth. The sugar in the milk causes cavities to spread, leading to toothache and other oral health problems. To prevent this, parents can take simple steps like making their child gargle or wiping their teeth with cotton before putting them to sleep. Unlike thumb sucking, which can cause jaw problems, nursing bottle syndrome is primarily caused by bottle feeding. By adopting healthy oral habits, parents can help their children avoid this issue and ensure a healthy smile.
