Being empathetic is such an important skill, however not everyone possesses it.

Out of all the people, one certain kind has the most difficulty being empathetic is the one who constantly see themselves as the victim.

You would think, someone who has gone through a lot in life would offer others same compassion and grace that they would have wanted in their past.

However, that’s not the truth. People who still pity themselves in the present for what they experienced in the past have a tendency to keep comparing their pains to that of others.

In their mind, they will always be the ones who have experienced more challenges. They would question that if they were able to handle it without any empathy and support, why should anyone else be offered the same.

Thus, they end up creating a bigger ridge between themselves and the people that love them.

Toxic positivity is a experience that a lot of people have on the daily.

Toxic positivity refers to a mindset which focuses only on the positive experience and ignores any difficult feelings that come along.

It forces people to interpret things in a way that only has a positive effect on them. On paper that sounds lovely but it does have a negative effect.

When people have space to only share their positive feelings, they don’t know what to do with the feelings that bother them.

They are forced to bottle them up and pretend that nothing is wrong.

What that does is, renders us incapable to even feel the most beautiful feelings to the fullest.

It takes away from the beauty and intensity of emotions, since we are always protecting ourselves from deeply feelings our emotions.

Wanting more effort in relationships and not knowing how to ask for it is a common problem a lot of people face.

They might decide that asking for more is not worth it but would always end up feeling unsatisfied.

This might come from a fear that the needs might not be fulfilled even if asked for. This belief comes from a past of not getting what is deserved leading to even lower expectations and feeling grateful when the bare minimum is fulfilled.

Changing this requires us to believe that we deserve to be treated good, no matter what the circumstances are. Asking to be treated better and with more effort becomes the next step.

Guilt is a fundamental part of the human experience.

It is an important tool that guides us to differentiate right from wrong. However, more often than not, guilt is based on assumed responsibilities rather than facts.

Guilt can also be highly subjective as it is a direct result of what someone experiences while developing their morality. That is why how people from different cultures experience guilt might not make a lot of sense for us.

This post will help you understand your guilt and reassess factors related to it.

Do you often worry if you are upsetting people from your actions?
While it’s okay to care how someone feels about your choices, but making it the only criterion for you to take decisions can affect you in the long term.

So here is a simple guide to make that choice easier.

1. Identify who you are afraid of upsetting. Is it everyone around you or anyone specific. This helps you to pay attention to your thoughts around that person.

2. Recognise if you are actually afraid of hurting them or you are worried about how they see you. While avoiding to hurt anyone is always a good idea, but their perception of you will always change as per circumstances.

3. Recall all the times you felt happy when you making sure they are okay. If you can count that on your fingers, then you are merely doing something for yourself and even this time around you are not going to feel relaxed.

4. Ask yourself if their actions have shown you that they worry about your perceptions as well. If not, then you might have kept them on a pedestal unknowingly and they are doing the least to make you feel comfortable.

5. Remind yourself that people who care about you will discuss, communicate and understand why you did what you did. If that doesn’t happen with them, maybe they just value how you treat them and not you as a person.

Starting a new relationship with someone can be very exciting. We take that decision based on different things, like the affection that they show you, the availability they have for you, the compatibility you both share, the understanding you develop, etc.

One thing we often don’t think of is: Conflict Resolution. When two people come together, it is highly likely that there will be conflicts.

Having conflicts doesn’t mean that there is something wrong, it’s only natural to have differences. However, how these conflicts are resolved is a very important indicator for the relationship’s success.

No matter how compatible people are together, if conflicts are not resolved in an efficient manner it will reflect on the health of the relationship.

So make sure you pay attention to their style of conflict resolution.
