Oriental magpie robin. The Oriental Magpie Robin is called “ढल चिड़ी” (Dhal Chidi) or more commonly “कलचुरी” (Kalchuri) in Hindi. It may also be referred to as “दयाल” (Dayal) in some regions of India, especially in rural and traditional contexts.
The national bird of Bangladesh is the Oriental Magpie Robin, locally known as “Doyel” (দোয়েল) in Bengali.
It is cherished in Bangladesh for its melodious song and is a symbol of cultural pride. The Doyel is so significant that there’s even a place called Doyel Chattar (Doyel Square) near the Dhaka University area featuring a sculpture of the bird.
