I'm often asked, as to why I openly share and teach whatever I know?
I often reply, why not !
As St Francis of Assisi said, "it is in giving that you receive", I believe this 100%.
In order to learn, the best way is to teach. When I teach, my learning is reinforced. Medicine and surgery are constantly evolving and changing, the only way to keep pace, is to constantly sharpen ones own knowledge.
As my teacher Dr Dipak Limbachiya had once said, “Laparoscopy is not something we invented. It has been taught and passed down by those who made it. We can only learn and pass on the skills and knowledge. If we don’t teach somebody, somebody else will definitely do it. There is no dearth of teachers. But when you teach atleast you get to be a teacher for somebody and that is a lifelong relationship. Plus you learn in the process too."
Then why be insecure about sharing, why be selfish about knowledge, why be miserly about a profession that only teaches us to give. I am what I am today, because of all my teachers who handed down that knowledge to me.
It's the very least I can do.
