Hello All!
Today I'm going to tell you the story of an inspiring man called Anshu Gupta. He's an Indian social entrepreneur and he is the founder of an organization called *Goonj*.
Goonj was started in 1999 and emphasizes on the importance of under-utilised urban material as a resource for rural areas.
Some of the projects undertaken by Goonj include,
*Cloth for Work*: Under this initiative, Goonj works with partners and communities to identify infrastructural improvements that need to be undertaken in the villages. Villagers then work to dig wells, clean ponds, repair roads, and build schools in the community using local resources, for which they are compensated with material resources like clothing, utensils, furniture etc.
*Not just a piece of cloth*: This initiative was started after the 2004 tsunami when trucks of cloth was on the streets as waste. The unwearable cloth from this lot was turned into cloth pads which later came to be called MY Pads. They started providing these affordable (Rs.5 for a pack of five sanitary napkins) easy-to-use clean cloth napkin made out of waste cloth for women in villages and slums.
Inspiring, or what? Let me not drone on.
