How do you start believing in the person who just came into your organisation and started telling, how to improve, adopt, change ?. He does not know your daily details and know-how, yet he teaches you how to solve your problems. Many times the trainers target a change and expect an impact after the training; he or she earns your trust only after the change is felt. For a leader, earning trust is essential; hence consultants who by default have taken the mantle for change have to earn the trust. If you as a consultant can’t bring about the understanding that leads to change, then the trust fades. The understating about the process should improve after every training. This understanding leads to solve problems and improves revenue or market share.

When trust does not exist, it is all learning to forget. There are classrooms not real understanding, just sessions that happen, but how to build the trust?. According to Confucius, considering the concerns and interests of another person is necessary for trust to be established between two people. When a consultant comes to train he is teaching how to implement continuous improvement, value-stream optimization, reducing process variability, eliminating waste, achieving targets, and continuously improving organizational performance. The exercises that follow should ensure that change is implemented and leads logically to operational excellence. Driving this point is an art, for this to happen the consultant should have immense faith or trust in the concepts he is training. He should train to make the participants believe in this new value system, and every employee should trust that this new way of operating will result in success and personal satisfaction.

In order for this to happen it is important that the consultant should show signs of leadership in handling the organisations change system. It is absolutely essential that this trust be strengthened through constant interaction and feedback for improvements over a period of time. For example the Pareto principle as a filter is driven at every stage of the DMAIC process. In consulting for change to lean Six Sigma, it is essential for the leader to understand what is powering the business and its organisational values. After each batch is trained the projects and follow ups should establish trust and build the shared principles of quality management and performance improvement. If employees do not believe in these principles or do not have a shared vision, it will be hard to establish trust, and if trust is not established, change will be difficult to achieve.
