I completed 4 years of being vegan on November 13th this year.
I know it seems like I turned vegan because of my love for animals. While that is part of the reason, it's not the whole story.
I turned vegan to be in alignment with myself and the yogic values I pursue: of Ahimsa (non-harming of self and others), Asteya (non-stealing from humans as well as animals) and Prathyahara (being the master to your senses, instead of slave).
I turned vegan because I have a strong sense of justice and I wanted to actively stand against the unspeakable atrocities committed on livestock.
Also I realised that the long-term implications of consuming dairy, meat and eggs is greater risk of heart disease, autoimmune disease, diabetes, pcod, osteoporosis etc - I quit because I surely don't want any of that when I'm older.
At the age of nearly 36, I'm proud to say that I wake up with a deep sense of peace and stability, zero aches and pains.
Food is information. Just as it affects our body, it also affects our mind. I turned vegan because I wanted a high vibrational body, mind and life.
Have I slipped up over the years? Yes, I have. But that doesn't mean that veganism is unfulfilling or without rewards. It only means that I'm not perfect, that we make mistakes along the way and I'm okay admitting that.
Happy veganniversary to me!
Many thanks to Lilli Tolpe and for offering information and inspiration that nudged me to go vegan. Interestingly, they both overcame their health issues through a vegan diet.
Thank you for the outfit, for the photo and .fortkochi for the space.
