Pictures from Kerala state annual orthopaedic conference at Kumarakom.

Was invited to do the prestigious Silver Jubilee Oration of KOACON titled "Operation of the century in God's own country". Possible only once in a lifetime as per KOA rules!

We looked at how we can improve the results of total hip replacement (popularly described as Operation of the Century" ) in our population. Hope we justified the expectations of the KOA

The meeting was very well organised by the Central Travancore Orthopaedic Society

Dr Saud, one of the best juniors I ever had, has completed his training and is leaving. Really sad to see him go. He is one of the trainees who taught me .. the trainer.. a lot. Best wishes to him.
On another front, officially I have three ladies as my juniors, to one male trainee. Good to see more women trainees in Orthopaedics!

The knee should be considered an organ, consisting of cartilage, menisci, the articulating bones and ligaments. These must work together in order to have a healthy functioning knee. Literature and current recomended practice is in favour of 'saving the meniscus' using repair methods, biologics or as demonstrated in this video a meniscal replacement all with the intent to reduce the incidence of osteoarthritis. This was the first case of meniscal replacement using Actifit in the country.
