The world’s first endo-robotic surgery was performed on a 75-year-old lady at VPS Lakeshore Kochi. Devakiamma, a Palakkad native, started experiencing throat pain in 2022.
Endo-robotic surgery is a type of minimally invasive surgery that combines the use of endoscopy and robotics. Endoscopy is a procedure that uses a thin, lighted tube called an endoscope to view the inside of the body. Robotics allows surgeons to perform complex procedures with greater precision and control than is possible with traditional laparoscopic techniques.

⚫Smoking
⚫Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
⚫Allergies
⚫Chronic sinus infections
⚫Vocal fold trauma

⚪Symptoms of vocal cord polyps

Vocal Cord Nodules

Vocal cord nodules are callous-like growths that form on the vocal cords, often from vocal abuse or overuse. They can cause a raspy, breathy voice.

Signs You May Have Vocal Nodules
🔊 Hoarseness
🔊 Vocal fatigue
🔊 Neck pain/tension
🔊 Airy, breathy voice
If you experience these symptoms, get your voice checked by an ENT doctor.

Treating Vocal Nodules
👂 Voice rest is key to allow the nodules to heal
👂 Vocal therapy helps relearn proper vocal techniques
👂 In some cases, surgery may be needed to remove stubborn nodules

🔴Mouth cancer, also known as oral cancer, is a type of cancer that develops in the tissues of your mouth. It can occur on the lips, tongue, cheeks, gums, roof of the mouth, and the floor of the mouth.

⚫Symptoms: Mouth cancer can cause a variety of symptoms

⚪Unexplained sores or lumps in the mouth
⚪White or red patches on the gums, tongue, or inner cheek
⚪Bleeding from the mouth
⚪Loose teeth
⚪Pain in the mouth or jaw
⚪Difficulty swallowing
⚪Changes in speech
⚪Unexplained weight loss

⚫Causes: The most common causes of mouth cancer are to***co use, including smoking and chewing to***co, and heavy alcohol use. Other risk factors include human papillomavirus (HPV) infection, a weakened immune system, and exposure to sunlight.

⚫Treatments: Treatment for mouth cancer depends on the stage and location of the cancer. Treatment options may include surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, and targeted therapy.

Prevention: There are several things you can do to reduce your risk of mouth cancer, including:

⚪Avoiding to***co use
⚪Limiting alcohol consumption
⚪Getting regular dental check-ups
⚪Practicing safe s*x to reduce your risk of HPV infection
⚪Protecting your lips from the sun by using sunscreen or lip balm with SPF
⚪If you are concerned that you may have mouth cancer, it is important to see a
doctor right away for diagnosis and treatment. Early detection and treatment of mouth cancer can improve the chances of a successful outcome.

A minimally invasive treatment option for throat and voice box cancer.

What is it?

Uses a robotic system and cameras to remove tumors in the throat and voice box through the mouth, without external incisions.
Precisely controlled small surgical instruments provide access to hard-to-reach areas.
Benefits:

Faster recovery time
Reduced pain and complications
Shorter hospital stay
Preserves speech and swallowing function
Ask your doctor if you're a candidate for transoral robotic surgery to treat your throat or voice box cancer. This innovative approach aims to maximize quality of life after treatment.

The Robot Will See You Now 🤖

Robotic surgery is transforming healthcare with its superhuman capabilities. Surgeons operate intricate computer-assisted robots that can reach tight spaces and make delicate movements impossible by human hands alone.

Benefits:
- More precise cuts
- Better visibility of tissue
- Less blood loss and pain
- Lowers infection risk
- Quicker recovery time
- Smaller scars

Robots are assisting doctors in delicate procedures for the heart, abdomen, pelvis, throat, chest and more. They are removing tumors in hard to reach areas with higher accuracy. They are stitching intestines and reconnecting blood vessels once deemed inoperable.

Robotic surgery feels like science fiction. But this innovative technology is already the gold standard for a variety of minimally invasive operations today. It’s the amazing future of healthcare unfolded before our eyes!

The robots are here to help! What medical miracles will they perform next? 😮

Spotting Trouble in the Mouth - Oral Cancer Signs You Shouldn’t Ignore

Oral cancer affects over 30,000 Indians each year. While some cases have no clearly defined causes, risk factors like smoking and heavy drinking can make you more prone. ♻️🍾

Catching these early warning signs of oral cancer could save your life:

✔️Persistent mouth sores that won’t heal
✔️Unexplained bleeding in mouth
✔️White, reddish or discolored patches
✔️Numbness or pain in mouth or face
✔️Difficulty swallowing or chewing
✔️Changes in speech, voice quality
✔️Swelling in jaw or neck that persists
✔️Loose teeth without clear cause

Oral cancer is highly curable if identified early and can be treated even in later stages through methods like surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy etc.👨‍⚕️

While some symptoms may end up benign, it’s crucial you get checked by your dentist. An examination along with a biopsy can confirm any worrying spots or growths.❗️

No one knows your mouth better than you do. If you notice anything abnormal lasting 2-3 weeks, consult an expert right away. It pays to be safe! 🙏

Stay vigilant about your oral health and help spread awareness. Early detection saves lives! 🎗

Do you have a lump or nodule in your neck? Many people develop non-cancerous thyroid nodules, abnormal growths on the thyroid gland in the neck. These nodules are very common, with estimates indicating that up to 50% of people may have them.

Thyroid nodules often don't cause any symptoms initially. Some people may notice a swelling or lump in the front of the neck as the main sign. The nodule may also be detected during a routine physician exam.

If a nodule is large enough to cause symptoms, you may experience:

A visible lump at the base of your neck
Tightness or pain in the neck
Hoarseness or voice changes
Difficulty breathing or swallowing
What causes thyroid nodules? There can be multiple reasons like iodine deficiency, inflammation, or overactivity of cells. Heredity can also play a role.

It's important to get thyroid nodules evaluated properly. Your doctor will typically perform a physical exam and order tests like an ultrasound, thyroid function tests, or a biopsy if cancer is suspected.

Treatment will depend on the type of thyroid nodule, its size, symptoms, and if it is benign or malignant. Options can include watchful monitoring, thyroid medication, or surgical removal.

Stay tuned for more information on thyroid health!
