Marthoma hospital, functioning under CMI religious congregation of India, is a specialized medical center where mentally challenged patients are cared for by proper diagnosis and by appropriate treatment using modern medicines and by adequate supportive psycho-therapeutic measures such as rational emotive therapy (RET), Bio-Feed-Back Techniques (BFT) and Client centered counseling ( CCC) . Although this hospital started in 1978 as a General hospital, realizing the signs of the time under the Directorship of Fr.J.B.Puthoor CMI, this hospital took shape as a psychiatric hospital by august 1985 on-wards. Situated near the banks of river periyar which enhances refreshing and beautiful atmosphere, the hospital well suits the psycho-social needs of privacy , a prerequisite for the quality functioning of a mental hospital.
