Viral fever spread by the bite of Aedes mosquito
2)Symptoms (may or may not be)
-High fever
-Nausea, Vomiting

-Bone & muscle pain
-Skin rash

- Platelet count
Approx lab cost - 50 Rs
-PCR test (Polymerase chain reaction )
To detect even minute quantities of viral antigen but very costly to perform.
Tip: The platelet count starts falling after 5th or 6th day of fever. So routinely it is not done for diagnosing the fever, but to monitor if the patient needs to be transfused with platelets or not.
3)How to choose which test to go for
-NS1 test for 1-2day's of fever
-IgG & IgM tests if fever is 5-6 days old
-Platelets after 5-6 days of fever (useful only after)
-PCR can be done anytime
4)Interpretation of the results
-If NS1 is +ve the patient is more likely suffering from dengue
-If both IgG & IgM are positive implies current infection
-If IgG is +ve & IgM is -ve implies past infection
-If PCR is +ve then dengue is +ve
Further tests if needed according to the condition...
