The FeNO test is non -invasive , quick ,simple and easy to perform, making it suitable for children and adults.

The FeNO test is especially valuable when used in conjunction with clinical history, spirometry, and other diagnostic tools to optimize asthma care.

When is it done and Why

FeNO is used in patients with symptoms suggestive of asthma (e.g., wheezing, breathlessness, chest tightness) when other diagnostic tests (e.g., spirometry) provide inconclusive results.

It helps confirm the presence of eosinophilic airway inflammation, which is a hallmark of asthma.

FeNO is used to assess response to inhaled corticosteroids (ICS), as these reduce airway inflammation.

It helps determine if a patient would benefit from ICS therapy, especially in borderline cases where the diagnosis of asthma is uncertain.

FeNO can help distinguish asthma from conditions like chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) or non-eosinophilic bronchitis, which do not typically show elevated FeNO
