Is it recommended to drink lemon water on an empty stomach?
Today I am going to discuss about the effects of lemon water in favor of detoxification of the body. All we know nowadays is that lemon water should be taken on an empty stomach. Lemon water will not detoxify or energise you, but it can affect your body in other ways. If you believe that drinking lukewarm water with a splash of lemon juice in your daily diet will detoxify and energise your body, it will not be. But obviously it provides a good source of vitamin C. Vitamin C is never stored in your body. It is excreted through urine. However, it can help people with diabetes and high cholesterol. Similarly, if someone drinks lemon water every day, do you get chronic damage? It's impossible.
Do you need extra vitamin C?
Lemon juice contains vitamin C, an important nutrient. We already know that vitamin C deficiency can cause scurvy. This condition is usually associated with a lack of fresh fruits and vegetables in the diet. Drinking lemon water can help if you are low in vitamin C. Vitamin C begins to degrade at 30-40 degrees Celsius. If you have enough vitamin C in your diet, some of the excess will be excreted in your urine as vitamin C or oxalate. So lemon juice can be added to your diet despite eating lemon juice with lukewarm water. The same benefits for both.
How about detoxing, energising , or soothing?
Our body already detoxes without the extra help of lemon water. Our bodies break down toxins or excess nutrients in the liver and expel those molecules through the kidneys and into your urinary tract. There is no evidence that vitamin C helps. If you really need a detox, your liver is not working properly. Similarly, lemon juice will not give you energy. However, like most nutrients, you can feel energised if you do not get enough of them. Similarly some people find warm drinks soothing, others prefer cold. The best temperature to drink fluids is to drink enough to stay hydrated.
So should I drink lemon water?
If you feel comfortable drinking lemon water, drink it! But if you don't, there's nothing to miss.
You can get vitamin C from other citrus fruits, as well as other fresh fruits and vegetables. So you can get it as recommended dose. Of further concern is the ability to erode tooth enamel, but this is a problem for any citric brewery. So after drinking lemon water, wash your face with tap water. Lemon water can make some people feel like urinating frequently. Lemon water causes acid reflux (heart burn). So it is better to avoid people with GERD.
So if you feel good after drinking lemon water, you can eat it every day, there is no harm in it.
