Dhenki or the typical traditional rice mill was used to remove the husk from rice grains. There was a rhythm in the monotonous activity of dehusking the grains. No, the grains did not look as lovely as they now do when machines are used for polishing the rice grains. Not only was the "dhenki- chata chaal" as we call it in bengali more nutritious they also had a distinct taste. They may not look nice but it is always the inner beauty that matters.
