Mass production of Doctors in India
Health infrastructure is in shambles. The budget government has for health clearly gives us an idea that they are least concerned about the health of people. Yet, the Health system is expected to work at its best. Doctors are expected to work in less pay because after all it’s a noble job. Doctors and allied health staff are expected to work hours after hours. Endless shifts.
Let us consider our state West Bengal as an example. Our state considers doctors as tamed monkeys. No increment in salaries for years. Every state government hospital is overcrowded with people. And the staff catered for them is below bare minimum. They won’t recruit enough. They won’t pay enough. But they expect everything to work smooth and functional. There was a time when medical profession was a milestone to achieve. But now, thanks to the endless number of colleges and zero percentile admissions, the profession now is just another job of survival. Lakhs and lakhs of students. So many medical colleges. So many graduates.
I remember when I gave my joint entrance, engineering had this situation. Too many colleges. Too many students. Ranks going in lakhs. Less placements.
But guess how many people TCS hire in one go? The infrastructure for recruiting doctors is nothing like a multinational company like tcs. It’s far far less. And now the competition is huge. So much so that you have to find ways to just manage your expenses.
10 doctors of same speciality are now present in every area/ward/paara . Patients get confused whom to consult. They just go by recommendations of others around them. So naturally a newly passed specialist would not have a chance for months to practice well.
But no! You have to do your best.
This is not a rant. This is reality. Thus for future medical aspirants, be very careful. If your dream is to live a aaram wala life, don’t even think of coming in this field.
