NOT ALL DISPLACED FRACTURE IN CHILDREN REQUIRE SURGERY.

Here is a case of 5 year girl presented to me with fully displaced fracture of the humerus.
She was advised surgery by the primary surgeon. They presented to me prepared for surgery. They were surprised when I advised them about non-surgical management for this fully displaced fracture.
After convincing them about the same,the child was managed non surgically.

Now her humerus fracture is fully united and her arm is fully functional.

Congenital knee dislocation is a condition where the knee is dislocated at birth.
This boy was born with the above condition.
He was intially treated with plaster casting which failed to give a satisfactory outcome. Then surgery ( quadriceplasty) was done and full correction was achieved.

Now the child is 1.5 years and fully recovered.

Patience in congenital deformity is key to success.

Early diagnosis and treatment gives the best result for bad elbow fractures

This 5 year old boy had a type 4 ( severe displaced) Supracondylar humerus fracture of elbow, with absent pulse.
He was operated within 4 hrs of presentation.

He is now fully recovered with no complications.

Slipped capital femoral epiphysis ( SCFE) is a condition of the hip where the head of the femur gradually topples off its place. It’s a condition of danger because the head of the femur bone may lose its blood supply and there will be permanent damage.

Modified Dunns Osteotomy is the recommended surgery which is described for the severe cases.

This is a difficult surgery and requires expertise and special training to perform.

Hereby is a case of 13 year old boy who presented to me with acute severe SCFE

Child who was not able to stand before surgery is now walking painfree.

And what an artist ( surgeon )needs is appreciation….

In my short practise in Kolkata as Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgeon, I am emensely gratified by my seniors, juniors,friends and most importantly patients for trusting and believing in me.
These small gestures gives us the impulse and motivation to thrive more.
