πΏ An Instrument of Peace πΏ
The Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi has always touched my heart β βLord, make me an instrument of your peace.β
On the night of 23rd September, when Calcutta was flooded and parts of Ballygunge were without electricity, I felt helpless and guilty, unable to reach out to anyone. Before going to bed, I prayed deeply, asking God to show me if I could be of help in any way.
Around 2 am, I was awakened by the cries of cats. Guided by two old candles and the dim light of my nearly discharged mobile phone, opened the door with my husbands help, I stepped into the cold flooded water. What I witnessed was heartbreaking β a mother cat in despair and her kittens struggling to survive in the flooded water nearly drowning. The two kittens in two different corners with single paw each clinging on to available plants on the flooded flower pots .
With Godβs grace, I managed to find and save both kittens from drowning. The joy and relief of the mother cat, circling around in gratitude, was beyond words. In that moment, I understood: it wasnβt me, but God working through me.
That night strengthened my faith β that prayer and meditation do not just bring peace within, but also open doors for us to serve. Even in darkness, with the smallest of resources, when we surrender, God makes us instruments of His love.
π I thank God for allowing me to be His channel, and I thank the Prayer of St. Francis for reminding me of the true essence of service.
