The prestigious inter-college competition, organized in collaboration with The Bengal Chamber of Commerce & Industry (BCC&I) and the Association of Hospitals of Eastern India (AHEI), focused on innovative strategies to position Kolkata as a leading healthcare destination in Eastern India and beyond.

A highly challenging and technically demanding surgery for a massive retrosternal (substernal) goitre was successfully performed at Belle Vue Clinic under the expert leadership of
Dr. Himansu K. Dasmahapatra, FRCS, FIACS
Senior Cardiothoracic Surgeon & Director of Cardiothoracic Surgery.
The 76-year-old patient had multiple high-risk co-morbidities including previous coronary stenting, hypertension, renal dysfunction, and rheumatoid arthritis. The giant thyroid swelling had extended deep into the chest cavity with compression near major blood vessels, making the procedure extremely critical and surgically complex.
Demonstrating exceptional cardiothoracic surgical expertise, the team successfully performed a combined cervical and upper hemi-sternotomy approach for safe mobilization and complete removal of the large intrathoracic goitre. The surgery required meticulous dissection, precise vascular control, and careful preservation of surrounding vital structures within the chest.
Despite the complexity and high operative risk, the patient had an excellent postoperative recovery:
✅ No ventilatory support required
✅ Uneventful recovery
✅ Discharged successfully on the 3rd postoperative day
This successful outcome reflects the advanced surgical excellence, precision, and multidisciplinary expertise available at Belle Vue Clinic.

The celebration began with a graceful Lamp Lighting Ceremony, symbolising the spirit of Florence Nightingale and the timeless commitment of nurses towards patient care and healing. The event was filled with joy and togetherness through cake cutting, vibrant dance performances, recitations, and an engaging drama presentation by our talented nursing team.

One of the highlights of the celebration was the recognition of excellence through the Best Nurses and Staff Awards, appreciating individuals whose commitment and service continue to inspire everyone around them.

The gathering was further enriched by motivational addresses from the management and nursing leaders, who shared words of encouragement, appreciation, and vision for the future of nursing leadership and compassionate healthcare.
