On behalf of our organisation Nurses Unity ,we would like to express our deepest condolence regarding the tragic incidence took place at Gouhati Medical College & Hospital.We have no words to express our condolence to that family .
Nurses are soft targets in health care systems across the country ,whether it is Goverment or non Goverment sector.As far as we know the fact, in the Neonatal intensive care unit there was more than 20 babies admitted and only one nurse was assigned to take care!.Only one nurse was monitoring these babies and she had to prepare milk for those babies .None were there , even doctors , other health staffs none.Now the questions are
Who assign only one nurse ?
How he or she realise that one nurse for more than 20 babies are sufficient ?
Why not hospital adminstration accuntable for such a tragic incident ?
Whats even more suprising is that the statement of CM Mr Himant Biswa Sharma said ""If someone thinks that a particular person is responsible ( for the death of the infant ) but Govt has not taken action , he or she should inform before the three member committee probing the case .But we can not arrest doctors based on media reports , that's not fair .""CM has no comment on the nurse arrest issue , he thinks the matter is okay , when arrested nurse has no power to assign! how many nurses ,how many doctors ,how many health staffs required for NICU ?
Our demands ----
1)All measures must be taken to ensure that such a tragic incident does not happen again ,not only babies but for all patients .
2)Immediate free the nurse unconditionally.
3)The culprit must be identified through an impartial investigation and given appropriate punishment .
