As a surgical oncologist, I spend each day fighting disease and restoring health. But beyond the operating room lies another critical battle — one that affects every heartbeat and breath we take: the health of our planet.

From rising pollution levels to the unchecked degradation of natural resources, the environment we live in has a direct impact on public health — including the increased risk of cancers linked to air and water pollution, harmful chemicals, and lifestyle stressors tied to climate change.

Some cases stay with you forever. Recently, I had the privilege of operating on a patient who had been living with a massive facial tumor for 26 years. It wasn’t just a medical challenge—it was an emotional one too. Watching her look at herself in the mirror after surgery, with tears in her eyes, was something I’ll never forget. This is why we become doctors—not just to treat, but to change lives. I’m grateful to my team, and to the patient for her trust and courage. Moments like these make all the hard days worth it.

It was an absolute pleasure to guide the students of Allied Health Sciences through the second phase of ‘Techno Surg: Advancements in Laparoscopy & Robotic Surgery’.
