বাঁদর, কাপকেক আর জলাতঙ্ক /// Monkeys, cupcakes and rabies infection///🤢🐒🧁🐕
শীতের বিকেলে নিউটাউনের একটা পপুলার জায়গায় শ্বেতা (২৬ বছর বয়সী তরুণী, নাম পরিবর্তিত) কাপকেক খাচ্ছিলেন। হঠাৎ একটা মেয়ে বাঁদর একটা বাচ্চা কোলে খুব কাছাকাছি চলে আসে। শ্বেতা তাড়াতাড়ি সরে যাওয়ার চেষ্টা করেছিলেন কিন্তু তার আগেই বাচ্চা বাঁদর তাঁর হাত টেনে ধরে কামড়ে দেয় ( ডাক্তারির পরিভাষায় ক্যাটাগরি থ্রি ইঞ্জুরি, ফটো দেখুন)। শ্বেতা আমার সাথে আলোচনা করে অনেকগুলো ইঞ্জেকশন নেন, সঙ্গে এন্টিবায়োটিক আর এন্টিভাইরাল ওষুধও চালাতে হয়।
চিকিৎসা না করলে কি হতো?
বাঁদরের কামড় থেকে যে শুধু হার্পিস এবং রেবিজ (জলাতঙ্ক) ইনফেকশন হতে পারে তাই নয়, ভয়ঙ্কর ব্যাকটেরিয়াল ইনফেকশনও হতে পারে। প্রতিটি ক্ষেত্রেই জীবনহানির সম্ভাবনা থাকে। শ্বেতা খুব তাড়াতাড়ি মডার্ন মেডিসিনের (এলোপ্যাথি) ডাক্তার দেখিয়ে উচিৎ কাজ করেন।
আমায় যদি বাঁদর/ কুকুর / বেড়াল/ বাদুড়/ ইঁদুর/ অচেনা জন্তু/ পাখি কামড়ে বা আঁচড়ে দেয় তাহলে আমি কি করবো?
কামড়ের জায়গা ধুয়ে ফেলুন, ফার্স্ট এড আর ড্রেসিং করুন। তাড়াতাড়ি মডার্ন মেডিসিনের (এলোপ্যাথি) ডাক্তার দেখিয়ে নিন। সম্ভব হলে পশু/ পাখিটির হেল্থ কেমন থাকছে ট্র্যাক করুন, কিন্তু তার জন্যে মূল্যবান সময় নষ্ট করবেন না। ইঞ্জেকশন, এন্টিবায়োটিক আর এন্টিভাইরাল ওষুধ সময়মতো দিলে ভয়ের কিছু থাকবে না।
শ্বেতা এখন ভালো আছেন, সুস্থ আছেন, সানন্দে কাপকেক খাচ্ছেন।

Shweta ( 26 years female, name changed) was in a prominent hang out location at New Town on a lovely winter afternoon. She was enjoying her cupcake when a female monkey carrying a young one came close to her. She tried to step away but not sooner than the young monkey grabbed her forearm and bit her (category III injury in technical terms, see photo). She consulted with me and underwent multiple injections and full courses of antibiotics and antiviral medications.
What could have happened if she did not undergo the treatment?
Monkeys can spread Herpes infection beside Rabies (hydrophobia). There are also possibilities of serious bacterial infections. Each of these conditions could be fatal if not treated/ prevented early on. Shweta did the right thing by consulting a modern medicine (allopathy) doctor right away.
What should I do if I get bitten / scratched by a monkey/ dog/ cat/ rat/ bat unknown animals/ birds?
Wash thoroughly, first aid and dress the wound right away. Consult a modern medicine (allopathy) doctor as soon as possible. If possible, track the health of the animal/ bird, but do not waste valuable time. If injections, antibiotics and / or antivirals are given in time, you will be safe.
Shweta is safe and doing well now, happily enjoying her cupcakes.
