Considering the dearth of Medical Professionals in West Bengal with the Doctor:Population ratio of 1:2600 Government of West Bengal decided to start a new Medical College of 100 MBBS student capacity, to cater mainly the rural population of West Bengal and particularly to reduce the overcrowding of the existing Medical Colleges of Kolkata, in a strategic location of Kamarhati, which is the gateway of North Kolkata. Moreover, this Medical College will become the main referral centre for the neighbouring Districts of North Kolkata in future.
