Embryo Transfer

Embryo transfer is the final and most critical step of the In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) process, where one or more fertilised embryos are carefully placed into a woman's uterus with the goal of establishing a pregnancy. The procedure is typically quick (15–30 minutes), minimally invasive, and usually performed without anaesthesia.

Types of Transfers

Fresh Embryo Transfer: Occurs 3–5 days after egg retrieval in the same cycle.
Frozen Embryo Transfer (FET): Embryos from a previous cycle are thawed and transferred. This allows the body to recover from stimulation and can sometimes result in higher success rates due to better uterine preparation.
Cleavage
Stage (Day 3): Transferring the embryo when it has 6–10 cells.
Blastocyst Stage
(Day 5/6): Transferring the embryo once it has reached a more advanced developmental stage, which often has a higher implantation potential.
Single Embryo Transfer (SET): Placing only one high-quality embryo to reduce the risk of multiple pregnancies (twins/triplets).
