Sounds that are unbearable - The people who are enraged by everyday sounds

Misophonia is a psychological condition where someone finds mundane sounds like chewing, clicking a pen, or whistling to be instantly, almost irrationally distracting and/or irritating, and can't concentrate until the sound goes away

Tim Griffiths, a professor of cognitive neurology at Newcastle University’s Auditory Cognition Group, has been studying people with misophonia. He thinks that different parts of the brain – the insula and motor cortex – are involved in this fight or flight response to seemingly innocuous sounds.

Dolly - the sheep that changed the world

The creation of Dolly in 1996 was arguably one of the greatest scientific achievements of the 20th Century.

Dollys creator Ian Wilmut dies aged 79

Prof Wilmut was among the leaders of a team that used a cell from the mammary gland of a dead adult sheep to create a living animal that was genetically identical to the donor

Rest in peace Professor Sir
Ian Wilmut

I am a medicine teacher - I steal from the book and bring them to bedside.

I cannot teach anybody anything , I can only make them think *

Now I realise that knowledge is learning what you didn't even know you didn't know
..... and finally there are three things to remember when teaching: know your stuff; know whom you are stuffing; and then stuff them in style !! 💚

Happy Teachers Day !!

2 New coronavirus variant are raising concern with public health, but much about it remains unknown

EG.5, nicknamed “Eris”, which is a subvariant of Omicron.Though data on the new variant is lacking, doctors are commonly seeing upper respiratory complaints, like sore throat, cough, congestion, and runny nose.

And

BA.2.86 ('Pirola'), the New Coronavirus Variant detected in Scotland - The variant carries more than 30 mutations—about the same number of mutations that differentiated the original Omicron from Delta.

Is it time to reinstate mask?

As a precautionary measure should we vaccinate the older and people with multiple comorbidities ?

Debate is on
