Observation of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day - 2025: An event that exceeded all expectations.
We express our heartfelt gratitude for the valuable presence of numerous esteemed multidisciplinary doctors from IMA Calcutta Metro and the Banchbo Healing Touch Foundation under the aegis of Indian Medical Association Bengal State Branch, especially given their busy schedules. We were privileged to have IMA Bengal State President Dr. Chandan Kumar Ghosh join us from afar, along with distinguished senior physicians such as Prof. Dr. Debasis Basu, former Acting Principal of Medical College Kolkata and a well-respected neurophysician; Prof. Dr. Prasanta Bhattacharya, President of IMA Calcutta Metro; Dr. Manindranath Roy, a eminent physician; Dr. Minakshi Gangopadhyay, Secretary of IMA Calcutta Metro; and Dr. Tarit Chatterjee, Treasurer of IMA Calcutta Metro. The vibrant leadership of our state's medical community, including Dr. Anirban Dolui and Dr. Prof. Ranjan Bhattacharya, along with the committed doctors from the BHTF medical team, significantly bolstered our initiatives. Senior members of the Banchbo Healing Touch Foundation, in collaboration with the Pronam wing of Patuli Police Station and the Dignity Foundation, greatly benefited from their invaluable insights and guidance. The discussions on preventing elder abuse, facilitated by these esteemed doctors and speakers such as Mrs. Runa Chatterjee, Advisor, Dignity Foundation Kolkata Chapter; Dr. Ujjwal Kumar Ghosh, a renowned yoga therapist; and Mr. Tirthankar Dey, Officer-in-Charge of Patuli Police Station, were both enriching and thought-provoking. Our senior citizens also availed the complementary consultation of 15 specialists from different specialities and advantages of complimentary tests like BMD and serum uric acid estimation, in addition to the specially priced blood test packages offered by the NABL-accredited laboratory, Accuhealth.
Despite the sweltering heat, we were thrilled by the enthusiastic turnout of numerous senior citizens, which exceeded our expectations. They genuinely enjoyed the event and expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the organizers for arranging such a vital program. Many attendees requested that we organize similar events in the future. Liaison officers from Patuli Police, particularly Mr. Pathak, effectively managed the members from Pronam. We extend our gratitude to IMA Bengal State, IMA Calcutta Metro Branch, and all senior officials for their exceptional support. We are truly honored to collaborate with them and appreciate the invaluable assistance from Kolkata Police. Representatives from Jagriti Dham also graced our event. We are also extremely grateful to Garia Bauddha Sanskriti Samsad for providing us their beautiful hall for organising our event.
We believe that with continued collaborative efforts, we can foster an abuse-free society for our cherished seniors.
