Fasting for weight loss? Ayurveda says: yes — but not the way trends teach you.
In Ayurveda, weight gain is deeply connected to weak Agni (digestive fire) and Ama (undigested toxins). Fasting, when used as part of Laghana Chikitsa — the therapy of “lightening” the body — helps burn Meda dhatu (fat), reduce Kapha, and restore clarity.
But not all fasting is healing.
✅ Follow these fasting principles:
Sip warm, spiced water during the day
Break fast gently with soupy, digestible food
NEVER fast if you’re tired, anxious, pregnant, or have Vata imbalance
Ayurveda isn’t about skipping meals.
It’s about respecting digestion — and healing your relationship with food.
