The Manovikas Kendra family mourns the passing of Mrs Meenakshi Atal – an educationist in the truest sense of the term. A visionary, who was extremely sensitive to the requirements of children with special needs, she spared no effort to promote their well-being through the different institutions she was associated with. Mrs Atal leaves behind a rich legacy of striving for a more equitable and compassionate world for persons with special needs, and will remain an inspiration for us at Manovikas Kendra.

We were elated to host the state Government’s Principal Secretary from the Department of Women & Child Development and Social Welfare, Smt Sanghamitra Ghosh on August 22, 2025.While our students presented some of our co-curricular activities, Smt Ghosh took a great deal of interest in what Manovikas Kendra offers in terms of therapy, vocational training and Biomedical Research, in addition to discussing areas of possible collaboration between Manovikas Kendra and the Government.

Independence Day 2025 saw students of different schools like Indus Valley World School and Sushila Birla Girls’ School come together at Manovikas Kendra, amidst august company. We hosted Mrs and Mr Chandra Shekhar Ghosh, the co-founders of Bandhan Bank as the children displayed exemplary versatility in the performing arts.

Amidst grey skies and gentle showers, Monsoon Melodies bloomed at Manovikas Kendra on 16th July 2025. A soulful celebration of music, dance, and poetry that united students from schools across Kolkata.Our students set the tone with performances filled with talent, heart, and joy, followed by vibrant showcases from Interact Clubs of various schools including St. John’s Diocesan Girls’ Higher Secondary School, DPS Ruby Park, Asian International School, Adamas International School, DPS Howrah and Indus Valley World School. A kaleidoscope of voices and movement captured the spirit of the monsoon.The event was graced by Chief Guest Ms. Sanjukta Bose, Director of IIHM, along with the principals of participating schools, eminent guests, and members of the MVK Governing Body.The day concluded with a moving rendition of “Hridoy Amar Nache Re Ajke”, sung and danced to by all. A beautiful moment of harmony and togetherness.The warmth, the bonding, and the spirit of inclusion made the occasion truly unforgettable. A celebration of rhythm and inclusion from the heart.

Centre for Vocational Training KendraThe Centre for Vocational Training aims to enable our children to contribute their skills to an ever-expanding, inclusive society. At the centre, we run a variety of training programmes, including:Baking and CookingOur children learn to bake bread, cookies, cakes and other delectable delights! Additionally, they learn to chop and prepare snacks as well as simple dishes for mealtimes. At our café AbiliTEA, our children learn to take orders and serve food and drinks to customers.Multimedia TrainingChildren are trained in Multimedia as well as executive and functional software use such as photocopying and lamination. Our Multimedia Training Centre has been set up to help our children excel in roles that interest them.

On 15th July 2025, the children of Manovikas Kendra celebrated the magic of the monsoons with a vibrant programme of music and dance.Dressed in beautiful shades of blue and green, our students lit up the stage with confidence and cheer, much to the delight of their proud parents.A heartfelt thanks to our dedicated teachers for preparing the children with such care, love, and endless patience.
