Dr. Kamalendu Chakrabarti
⚕️ Dr. Kamalendu Chakrabarti (MBBS DCH MD) was an internationally acclaimed Kolkata-based Pediatrician, a known crusader for Breastfeeding Promotion in Indian subcontinent, was an eminent writer and Health Editor at the Bengal Newz.
He got his MBBS degree in 1972, DCH in 1975 and MD (Pediatrics) in 1981. He has been working as a Medical officer, Basic Teacher and Pediatrician in different government Hospitals in West Bengal, India since 1975.
He has undergone extensive training in Diarrheal Diseases in Kalawati Saran Children Hospital, New Delhi, India organized by WHO in 1989 and established Diarrhea Treatment and Training Center in North Bengal Medical college, one of the first of its kind in West Bengal.
Dr. Chakrabarti was one of the pioneer members of Breastfeeding Promotion Network of India (BPNI) working in state and national levels to promote, protect and support 🤱 Breastfeeding. He was a core group member of BPNI, West Bengal. He had been appointed as National Trainer in "Breastfeeding counseling and complementary feeding" in 2003.
In 1996, he single handedly made MR Bangur Hospital Kolkata, a "Baby Friendly Hospital" that was first along with a few others, had been declared as the task force.
To improve the child's mental status, he engaged himself not only treating children for their physical sufferings, but also for their moral and educational improvement.
He spends much of his time in writing books of pre-primary education as a personal venture. He has been appointed as Academic Counselor of IGNOU (Indira Gandhi National Open University).
He has presented papers, and participated in innumerable conferences in state level, National and international levels.
He was a regular writer in Magazines. His passion was writing.
Dr. Kamalendu Chakrabarti passed away on 17th September 2018, early Monday on 12:55 am at his Barasat residence, following a massive cardiac respiratory failure.
