Allergy Asthma Treatment Centre

Allergy & Asthma Treatment Centre is the oldest and premier allergy treatment centre of eastern India. This centre which started to operate as a centre to study the allergenicity of Eastern Indian population in 1975, has now grown into a complete allergy treatment and research centre. It boasts of having treated more than 5 lakh patients not only from West Bengal but also from the neighboring states and Bangladesh. The centre has 10 dedicated full time specialist doctors and 5 Basic scientists working in the field of allergy and Immunology, alongwith research fellows and ancillary staffs. This centre had been instrumental in developing the specialty of allergy from mere prescription of antihistamines for symptom control to complete delineation of the cause, sensitization pattern of patients and precise diagnosis of the disease. This helps in formulating the treatment and lifestyle modifications which ultimately results in imparting a disease free life to the patients.

This centre is also one of the first centre which started allergen immunotherapy using indigenous allergens in close technical collaboration with the erstwhile CSIR- Centre for Biochemical Technology (Govt of India),Delhi and V P Chest Institute(University of Delhi), Delhi. The centre has its own DCGI(Govt of India) approved human ethics committee to impart Good Clinical Practice. It has strong academic collaborations with University of Calcutta, Jadavpur University, Bose Institute and Indian Institute for the Cultivation of Science and it hosts the national conference of allergy which is an yearly event and the only conference in West Bengal which provides a unique platform for the academicians, researchers, doctors and patients to come together and discuss various issues pertaining to allergy. The centre’s patient education cell helps to propagate the knowledge of allergic diseases and its treatment among the populace. The centre maintains a standard guideline for the diagnostic workup and treatment of the patients with allergic diseases which has been drafted in the lines of Christian Medical College, Vellore. Each patient undergoes a detailed clinical workup and battery of immunological tests to arrive at the perfect diagnosis which sets the path for their complete treatment and best of the results. The centre now strives to be a centre of excellence in the field of allergy in Eastern India
