A lot of words have been passed, a lot of reactions, counter-reactions have been made regarding the most unfortunate fetal death of a social influencer and harassment of the treating doctor in social media!! The global football superstar Christiano Ronaldo and his family has passed through the same recently!! I just want to share one of my beloved doctor friend's thought on this matter. Hope our society heals fast 🙏🙏🙏

Today (4th August) is National Bone & Joint Day. We the Orthopaedic surgeons all over India celebrate this day by serving patients and providing the best of our care.

On this auspicious day I share a very rare case of anterior elbow dislocation ( only ~ 3% of all elbow dislocations) treated by me by open reduction and fixation of associated fracture. Today the young chap presented to me with his dominant right hand functioning back. Wish his full recovery soon.

"ফ্রোজেন শোল্ডার" (Frozen Shoulder) বা চিকিৎসাবিজ্ঞানের ভাষায় "অ্যাডেসিভ ক্যাপসুলাইটিস" (Adhesive Capsulitis) এমন একটি অবস্থা যেখানে কাঁধের সন্ধিতে (জয়েন্ট) ব্যথা এবং অত্যন্ত আড়ষ্টতা (extreme stiffness) হয়।
এই আড়ষ্টতার মূল কারণ হলো কাঁধের সন্ধিকে ঘিরে থাকা 'ক্যাপসুল' (capsule) নামক একটি আবরণের অস্বাভাবিক পরিবর্তন। সাধারণত, এই ক্যাপসুলটি নমনীয় থাকে এবং কাঁধের স্বাভাবিক চলাচলে সাহায্য করে। কিন্তু ফ্রোজেন শোল্ডারের ক্ষেত্রে, এই ক্যাপসুলটি প্রদাহযুক্ত হয়, পুরু এবং শক্ত হয়ে যায়। এর ফলে ক্যাপসুলের ভেতরে ফাইব্রোসিস বা আঠালো তন্তুর (scar tissue/adhesions) সৃষ্টি হয়, যা জয়েন্টের বিভিন্ন অংশকে একে অপরের সাথে "আটকে দেয়" বা "জমাট বাঁধিয়ে ফেলে"। এই আঠালো টিস্যুগুলো কাঁধের স্বাভাবিক মসৃণ নড়াচড়াকে মারাত্মকভাবে ব্যাহত করে। ফলে হাত ওঠানো, ঘোরানো বা পেছনের দিকে নেওয়া অত্যন্ত কষ্টকর এবং বেদনাদায়ক হয়ে ওঠে। শুধু তাই নয়, এই আড়ষ্টতা এতটাই তীব্র হতে পারে যে মনে হয় কাঁধ সম্পূর্ণ 'স্থির' বা 'জমে গেছে', যেখান থেকে এর নাম 'ফ্রোজেন শোল্ডার'। দৈনন্দিন সাধারণ কাজ যেমন পোশাক পরা, চুল আঁচড়ানো বা ঘুমানোও অসম্ভব হয়ে পড়ে। এই চরম আড়ষ্টতাই ফ্রোজেন শোল্ডারের অন্যতম প্রধান বৈশিষ্ট্য এবং এর কারণে রোগীর জীবনযাত্রার মান গুরুতরভাবে ব্যাহত হয়।

এই রকমই কাঁধের সম্পূর্ণ আড়ষ্টতা ( কমপ্লিট লস অফ মুভমেন্ট) এবং সঙ্গে অত্যধিক ব্যাথা নিয়ে এই রোগিনী আমাদের কাছে আসেন। বিভিন্ন জায়গায় প্রচলিত চিকিৎসা (consevative management) করিয়েও উনি আরাম পাচ্ছিলেন না। আমরা ওনার কাঁধের জয়েন্ট ক্যাপসুলের arthroscopic release করি এবং অপারেশনের দুই সপ্তাহের মধ্যে উনি সম্পূর্ন মুভমেন্ট ফিরে পান এবং ব্যাথাও প্রায় নিরাময় হয়। আমরা ওনার সম্পূর্ণ সুস্থতা কামনা করি।

When a patient sings to his heart's content in the operation theatre while a complex surgery of his knee is undergoing, it shows the comfort and intimacy he is having with the surgeon. Its very agonising for a 45 year old hard working lady to be bedridden with broken femur after an accident. Its our pleasure that we could make her do her daily chores with ease once again.

This week we have completed 1 year of our journey 🏃🏃🏃. It wouldnt have been possible if so many patients didnt give us the opportunity to treat them 🙏🙏🙏. So we are celebrating this 1st birthday of our clinic 🎂🎂🎂 by means of service because that always is our first priority.

Story of a comeback from bed to life!!

This gentleman presented to us 2 months back- bedridden with complete inability to stand walk or even sit properly. He has ankylosing spondylitis with fused spine and bilateral hip joints which eventually restricted his mobility completely.

We operated on his hip joints (THR) one after another and after a short course of assisting physiotherapy he is now able to stand erect and walk independently and he is going to sit at his shop again after a long gap of nearly a year!

Thanks to our anaesthesia team for stellar management despite of his very stiff neck and back and thanks to the Almighty to get this man back to his life again.
