Good posture is the alignment of the body in a way that minimizes strain on tissues and ensures equal weight distribution, allowing for optimal natural functioning.
Four signs of poor posture include:
• Forward head posture
• Rounded shoulders
• Hunched upper back
• Overly arched lower back
Poor posture leads to the shortening and weakening of muscles, reduces mobility, and causes fatigue. This, in turn, elevates cortisol levels (the stress hormone), resulting in chronic pain (including radiating pain), persistent discomfort, and negatively impacting both physical and mental well-being.
Physical therapy aims at rectifying the faulty posture, stretching and strengthening specific muscle groups and also teaches patients to handle injuries and prevent further deterioration.
