On 15 April, we operated the sister of this lady for a perforation.

After the surgery , she told me that I had operated her in 2005 back in Medical College for her ITP.

Hematologist department had referred to me for doing a laparoscopic splenectomy since she was a young unmarried girl then. Laparoscopic splenectomy had never been done before in West Bengal public sector till then. There was no expensive gadgetry then in medical college.

She remembers me telling her before the surgery: “You don’t be afraid, it’s not your test. It’s a test of my skills“😊. She said she had complete faith.

This is the note she sent me yesterday (cured of her condition) and with her permission I am posting this. I am compelled to believe - Gratitude exists and it’s one of the major reasons why we take this job.

We are proud to share that Dr. Sarfaraz Baig recently joined a global panel of experts from Singapore, China, Russia, and Europe on ELSA TV to discuss the future of Complex Abdominal Wall Reconstruction (AWR).

On ELSA TV, Dr. Baig shared expert insights into the shifting landscape of complex hernia surgery, highlighting a global transition toward more cost-effective and durable sublay (retro muscular) repairs. He emphasized the clinical benefits of pre-operative Botox and the Peritoneal Flap technique to successfully close massive defects while minimizing the need for expensive implants. Above all, Dr. Baig stressed that patient success depends on a multidisciplinary team (MDT) approach—optimizing weight, nutrition, and smoking status before surgery—and urged a global focus on better surgical closure techniques to prevent hernias before they start.
